Kheng Sonam Dorji is a renowned Bhutanese musician, vocalist, composer, and founding director of the Music of Bhutan Research Centre (MBRC), established in 2008 to document and preserve Bhutan’s diverse musical heritage. Hailing from rural Zhemgang, he began broadcasting traditional songs by age 13, studied classical and folk music in India, and rose to international prominence via the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (2008) and his album Music from the Mountains of Bhutan (2014). His pioneering PhD work at MSU Baroda introduces the first comprehensive classification and notation of Bhutanese music.
